So...Why
Queens from Chile?
Simply, it provides
beekeepers with another source for quality queens. The
beekeeping industry in Chile has been thriving for many
years and queen breeding is certainly not a new idea for
them. Years of geographical confinement by the Pacific
ocean and the Andes Mountain range has allowed Chile to be
virtually
untouched by the outside world. In turn, the extensive
work done with genetic stock has allowed them to produce a
bee which faces much of the same conditions as our bees face
here in North America.
In
house selection and testing for
disease, artificial insemination
technology, and up-to-date laboratory equipment helps them
stay current in the art of breeding.
In addition, latest advancements in barcode
technology enables Chilean queen breeding experts to graft
and track offspring among thousands of mating nucs.
It
has been said that Chile is a paradise for queen breeding,
offering the breeder a season of dry sunny weather ideally
suited for controlled queen production.
And this is very
important for beekeepers...to receive queens on time for the
intense season that lies ahead!
